A quiet and contented valley
The Séveraisse is not one of the best-known rivers in the Hautes-Alpes, however it is
well worth a visit. Because of its position literally at the end of the road, the
Valgaudemar has been able to preserve its unspoilt appearance, character and
traditions. The upper part of the valley is tucked away at the very heart of the Parc
National des Ecrins, and is one of just ten official biotope reserves in France. The
river running through this quiet corner of the Alps is technical, fast and steep, although
it does have several quieter
sections. It is navigable from spring to autumn and is also suitable for rafting. The
Séveraisse ploughs its course at the foot of the Pic d'Olan, famous for its magnificent
waterfalls. Are you ready to head for the Valgaudemar and try it for yourself?
